Privacy policy

MisoFilter ("we", "us") makes MisoEQ, a Mac app that filters the sound your Mac plays, and runs the store at misoeq.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and who else handles it.
The short version: your audio never leaves your Mac. MisoEQ has no analytics, no tracking and no accounts. We collect only what's needed to sell you MisoEQ and keep your license working.
When you buy from our store
Our store runs on Shopify. When you browse or buy, we and Shopify collect:
- Order details: your name, email address, billing address and what you bought. We use these to process your order, send your download and license key, provide support and handle refunds.
- Payment details: these are handled by our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.
- Browsing information: Shopify uses cookies and similar technology to run the store, for example to keep your cart working and to prevent fraud. It may also collect your IP address, browser and device type.

Some MisoEQ purchases and license keys are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the seller of record for those orders and collects similar order and payment information. Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.
When you use MisoEQ
Your audio
MisoEQ processes your Mac's audio live, on your Mac. It is never uploaded, shared or stored.
MisoEQ never accesses your microphone and never records your surroundings. It only works with the audio your Mac is playing.
The one exception to "never stored" is an optional troubleshooting tool. If you turn on diagnostics and press RECORD 20s yourself, MisoEQ saves 20 seconds of the audio it is filtering (what your Mac was playing, before and after processing) to a folder in your Documents. The files stay on your Mac unless you choose to send them to someone.
Your license key
When you activate MisoEQ, it sends two things to our license provider, Lemon Squeezy:
- your license key
- a label for your Mac made of its model name and a short code, for example "MacBookPro18,3 · 3f9a1c". The code is scrambled from your Mac's hardware ID, and the ID itself can't be worked out from it.
MisoEQ re-checks your key every few days. This lets each key work on up to 2 Macs and lets you free up a Mac with Help > License > Deactivate This Mac. On your Mac, MisoEQ stores only your key and its activation.
Updates
MisoEQ checks for updates by downloading a small file from misofilter.github.io, and downloads updates from GitHub. Like any download, these requests reveal your IP address and app version to GitHub. Support and diagnostics
Help > Copy Diagnostics copies a short report to your clipboard: your Mac model, macOS version, MisoEQ version, audio device names and settings, and whether your license is active. It never includes your license key or any audio, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you paste it into a message yourself.

How long we keep information
We keep order records for as long as needed for accounting, tax and refund purposes, and support messages for as long as they're useful for helping you. MisoEQ's license record is kept while your license exists.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing support@misoeq.com. We'll respond within 30 days. Some order records must be kept for legal and tax reasons.
California residents: we don't sell or share personal information as defined by California law. You can request the categories of information we've collected about you, and we won't treat you differently for making a request.
Do Not Track: our store doesn't change its behavior when your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. MisoEQ itself does no tracking at all.
Children
Our store and MisoEQ aren't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version on this page.
